Research Terms
Genealogy Research Disclaimer & Terms
Thank you for trusting The Crypt Chick with your family history journey. Please read the following terms before submitting a research request.
1. Hobbyist/Volunteer Status
I provide genealogy research and grave-finding services as a hobbyist volunteer. I am not a professional genealogist, and I do not charge a fee for my time. This service is provided out of a personal passion for taphophilia and local history.
2. No Guarantee of Results
Family history is not an exact science. Records may be missing, destroyed, or illegible. While I will use my best efforts to locate your ancestors or their final resting places, I cannot guarantee that any specific information, grave, or record will be found.
3. Accuracy of Information
I conduct all research in "good faith" using available public records and cemetery visits. However, I cannot be held responsible for inaccuracies in historical records, transcriptions, or third-party databases. I am not liable for any errors or omissions in the final information provided to you.
4. Sensitive Discoveries
Researching family history can sometimes reveal "surprises," such as unexpected family branches, illegitimacies, or criminal records. By requesting research, you acknowledge that you are prepared to receive whatever information the historical record holds.
5. Data Privacy (GDPR)
To conduct research, I need to collect personal information from you (such as your name, email, and family details).
Use: This data is used solely to perform the requested research.
Storage: I will not share your personal contact details with third parties.
Living Persons: I do not provide detailed research or public reports on individuals who are currently living, in accordance with UK privacy laws.
6. Photography & Copyright
Any photographs I take of headstones during my research are my own work. You are welcome to keep these for personal use (family trees, etc.), but please credit The Crypt Chick if you post them on public websites or social media.
7. Right to Decline
As a volunteer with limited time, I reserve the right to decline or pause research requests if the starting information is too vague (e.g., "Looking for a John Smith born in 1850") or if my current workload is too high.
